Measuring for a New Collar
When it’s time to get a new collar for your pet, take the time to make sure you’re getting the right size and your dog or cat will thank you! Collars can stretch out over time and sizing usually varies by style and brand. Even if your pet’s current collar fits and you know the size, it’s still important to take a new measurement before buying a collar.
The best way to ensure a perfect fit is by physically measuring your pet. Using a measuring tape, measure the narrowest point of your pet’s neck, just as loose or tight as you would like the new collar to fit. A proper fitting collar should leave enough room for you to slide two fingers between the collar and your pet’s neck. The collar should be snug, without being so tight that it will cause discomfort or loose enough to slide over your pet’s head.
If your pet’s neck measurement falls between two sizes, decide if you want to be able to adjust smaller or larger than the measurement and pick the size accordingly. For puppies, kittens and growing pets, order the next size up.
